Lock City Anime & Comic Convention Returns!

Article & photos by John A. Wilcox

A Convention To Call Your Own is the motto for Felix Velez's Lock City Anime & Comic Convention. I attended the con last year and had a splendid time. It reminded me of my earliest days of hitting conventions around 1980. Smaller affairs than the ginormous behemoth conventions springing up everywhere. At Lock City I had more room to breathe. There were still lots of folks, but it was a more positive vibe!

For 2018, the convention has some fun guests. Peter Laird is best known for co-creating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Speaking of TMNT, Steve Lavigne is a special guest as well. Lavigne was the first artist employee hired by Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird back in 1985. Innovative magician Kody Hildebrand, founder of Smoke & Mirrors Magic will most assuredly be astounding attendees of all ages! Herofied designer / artist Rob Taylor is attending as well.

Artist Tom Ryan brings his awesome geekified art prints to the con. Awesome Connecticut cosplayer Jaycee Cosplay will wow you with her craft! Be sure to get a photo with her! Professional animator Philo Barnhart and his pal Charles Mosiant bring outstanding creativity to the event! Action figure designer Ron A. Rudat, who worked on such franchises as G.I. Joe and WWF is waiting to meet you. Don't miss your chance to meet voice actor Cassandra Lee Morris. Her extensive credits include Persona 5, Sword Art Online, Fate/Extra Last Encore, Madoka Magica, League of Legends, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans.

Hang out and sing some karaoke at the dreamy Moe Mahou Maid Cafe. You will not want to leave! Check out the tricked out vehicles, enter the cosplay contest, hit a workshop, or buy some swag! Whatever floats your boat will be there!
